Value Stream Mapping
A “value stream” represents all the actions that are currently required to bring a product or service through its main process steps required to transform it from its origin or raw material state to its primary consumer. This may be a process flow of a product or service from raw material through to customer acceptance or the process of taking a new product design from concept to product launch.
The purpose of the value stream map (VSM) is to look at the big picture of how the product or service is currently being produced in order to create a “future-state” map as all non-value added activities are eliminated as all non-value-added but required activities are minimized.
